Rev. Karen Jackson
Assistant Pastor
Reverend Karen D. Jackson is a native of Washington, D.C. She is an ordained Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.) She is married to the Reverend Phillip D. Jackson. At the 70th Session of the Washington Annual Conference, Bishop James L. Davis appointed him as the pastor of Mount Sinai-Cornerstone A.M.E. Church in Indian Head, Maryland, where she is the assistant pastor. She is the proud mother of three Keith A. Moore (granddaughter, Madison), Phillip D. Jackson II (grandson, Phillip III, and Zaire), Destinee Jackson.
In 1994, she joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Church and served under the dynamic duo team ministry of the Rev. Dr. Grainger Browning (Senior Pastor) and Rev. Dr. JoAnn Browning (Co-Pastor). There she used her gifts and talents, serving faithfully with many ministries of the church; Married Couples Ministry, Usher Ministry, Ministry of Helps, and Daughters of Anna Prayer team.
In 2000 – 2005, Rev. Jackson matriculated to Wilberforce Ohio, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University, in Organizational Management and Master of Divinity degree from Payne Theological Seminary. During her studies at Payne, she was honored to receive the Presiding Elder Cornelia Wright A.M.E. Scholarship for preaching women. During the pursuit of her education, Rev. Jackson ministered throughout Ohio in the Third Episcopal District and was the Assistant Pastor of Shorter Chapel A.M.E. Church in South Charleston, Ohio, serving alongside her husband, Rev. Phillip D. Jackson.
In 2005 – 2014, she returned to Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, where she served on the ministerial staff for nine years and was the Spiritual Advisor over the Married Couples Ministry called the Blessings Love Ministry (BALM). She and her husband ministered to over 200 couples through the preached word, bible studies, and planned events.
In 2014, her husband served as pastor of Life Change A.M.E. Church. Rev. Jackson immediately began assisting her husband as the assistant pastor. In addition to her ministerial duties, she is a dynamic preacher and teacher; she focused her ministry gifts on women, youth, and marital counseling. She is an advocate for battered and abused women and deals primarily with women “overcoming” various addictions, troubled relationships, single parenting, and blended family issues. Possessing a heart for women, Rev. Jackson organized the Circle of Faith Women’s Ministry dealing with the Matters of the Heart issues. She currently serves as a Board Member of the Columbia, Maryland Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation, which primarily focuses on community concerns, particularly African American youth in Howard County.
She believes she is on a Christian journey and stands firmly on the promises of God. Her favorite scripture, which she often quotes, is Proverb 3:5 and 6, “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not to thy own understanding, but in all thy ways acknowledge God and God will direct your path.”
